About Us

G.Glass was prior to 1996 known as John Gee Glass and the original premises were located in Bell Street, Preston Victoria).
Since the early 1960’s the previous business owners were providing a wide variety of glassblowing services to Universities, Government Institutions and industrial establishments.
We can be justly proud of the fact that we can continue to provide a comprehensive glassblowing service to our customers.

A glimpse back in time

The present owner, Michael Koppenol, is a scientific glassblower who served his five year apprenticeship more than thirty five years ago at Leiden University in The Netherlands. His apprenticeship commenced in 1969 at the Kamerlingh Omnes Laboratory, which was then part of Leiden University.

The first few years of such an apprenticeship usually meant constructing fairly straight forward pieces of laboratory glassware, but as the years went by competency levels of a scientific glassblower would be such, he could be trusted to construct complex pieces of glass instrumentation for use in an industrial or research environment.

In 1980 he moved to Australia and soon found employment in the Chemistry Department at La Trobe University. It is here where he greatly extended his skills and experience as scientific glassblower.
He left La Trobe University in 1996 and soon an opportunity arose to take over the glassblowing business from John Gee Glass.

Future

With a wealth of experience in the areas of research laboratory supported glassblowing activities as well as in production type glassblowing for numerous industrial applications, G.Glass is well placed to meet any future challenges.
